Have you ever wondered what factors are in control of a person's destiny?
What forces truly shape our fate?
I once came across a story that, when you hear it, you'll realise that a person's destiny can be influenced by something unexpected.
So, what's this story about?
It revolves around a demolition engineer known for their diligence, exceptional skills, and unwavering commitment to their work. One fine day, it happened to be their daughter's birthday, and they parked their car to visit a bakery in high spirits, intending to purchase a birthday cake. However, upon leaving the bakery, they were met with the sight of their car being towed away.
The peculiar thing was that there were no clear parking restriction signs nearby. This left them in a dilemma: should they rush home to celebrate their daughter's birthday or embark on a mission to reclaim their towed vehicle? After careful consideration, they retrieved their car and proceeded to the towing company. A prolonged and frustrating argument followed, but unfortunately, they didn't achieve the desired outcome. By the time they returned home, their emotional state had reached a breaking point, and they had missed their daughter's birthday.
The following day, they revisited the towing company and, overwhelmed by frustration, resorted to smashing their windows. This act triggered another heated altercation. Consequently, their employer terminated their employment, citing poor emotional control. Losing their job was just the beginning of their troubles. Their spouse informed them, "If you no longer have a job, then we're getting a divorce; we can't continue like this."
At this juncture, the demolition engineer's emotions completely spiralled out of control. So, what did they do? They devised a plan to blow up the towing company, and the explosion became a reality. This is an authentic account, and, in the end, they found themselves incarcerated.
Reflecting on this, they ruined their own life and ended up behind bars. What, ultimately, was in control of their destiny? It was their emotions. Had they been better equipped to manage their feelings, their outcome might have been dramatically different.
That's why, as the I Ching suggests, your destiny is intricately connected to your emotional state, whether it leans towards fortune or peril. Hence, at times, mastering your emotions means mastering your destiny.
